| A short stop in England 1666 brings the Doctor and Donna into fleeting contact with Isaac Newton...and idea of mavity. The TARDIS crash-materialises inside a spaceship. The Doctor and Donna get out just before there is a massive blast of energy from within the TARDIS. The Doctor removes the lock and inserts the sonic screwdriver to assist the TARDIS to regenerate itself. While they are waiting, the Doctor and Donna decide to explore the spaceship around them. Spotting someone or something in the distance they move long in the direction of the object, unaware they are being watched. Hearing the TARDIS engines kicking in, they dash back only to see the TARDIS dematerialise. Donna discusses ways the Doctor can bring back the TARDIS such as clicking his fingers or whistling. The Doctor comments that there is one hope, that the Hostile Action Displacement System (HADS) is active: when there is danger the TARDIS goes away and when the danger is over the TARDIS will return. The problem is he doesn't really turn it on, the hope is that while the TARDIS is rebooting the HADS will operate. Donna remarks that they are on a ship containing something so bad the TARDIS "ran away". | - |
THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY: PART THREE THE GIGGLE | ||
| Soho, London 1925: a man is searching for an item that he can use for a test of something that might change the world. He enters a shop which sells tricks, games and magic called Mr Emporium. The man in the shop begins his sales pitch, telling of the items he has and of the games with their rules. One puppet catches his eye: the shop owner remarks that the puppet has a family - a wife puppet and three children puppets. Nevertheless, the man only wants the one puppet - for his employer, John Logie Baird. The puppet will be used as the first televised image. In the present day, the world has gone mad - everyone thinks they are right, all of the time, doing whatever they want without regard to consequence. UNIT arrive on the scene to pick up the Doctor. After all the organisation has had to deal over the years, now they are faced with a battle against the human race. A signal is being broadcast across the world, without protective devices anyone exposed to the signal has the notion that their opinion is the only valid opinion and must be acted upon. An analysis of the signal leads to a basic tune and further analysis compares it to the giggle of a puppet - a puppet used by John Logie Baird to demonstrate television. | - |
