A highly memorable first episode kicks off this unusual Doctor Who story. Its a pity that the pace of that first episode is not maintained and even with shorter episodes, the story gradually slows down in both pace and intrigue. However, its still an enjoyable story with some memorable moments and dialogue. As a whole, it works nicely and provides an interesting contrast to the previous, monster-orientated season.

The story benefits from some eleventh hour changes - the addition of an extra episode (the excellent first episode), and the temporary appearance of Hamish Wilson as Jamie. I must comment on how easily Hamish Wilson slips into Frazer Hines' shoes: the plot works quite well and shows more inventiveness than I have come across in any Doctor Who materal from the 1990s onwards.
