SAPPHIRE AND STEEL
ASSIGNMENT FIVE

GENERAL INFORMATION

PICTURE/SOUND QUALITY

Although there is some video noise, the picture quality is generally acceptable. Its slightly better than the VHS release but does not really offer much incentive for anyone still reluctant to leave VHS behind.

The sound quality is reasonable. The soundtrack is in its original mono, but that is how it was recorded originally and it is acceptable. Cyril Ornadel scores the incidental music for this story.

In short - an acceptable transfer and soundtrack, but it could be better! Overall, I would rate the sound and picture quality at 75%

DVD EXTRAS

The extras are not only quite basic, they are fairly static. To put it simply, all you get are a series of transribed notes with the odd still (and some of those aren't relevant to the story). Overall, I would rate the extras at 25%.

INTRODUCTION TO THE STORY

Lord and Emma Mullrine are holding a 1930s party to celebrate 50 years of Mullrine International. The guests all arrive and change into appropriate attire for the period. Steel and Sapphire assume the role of guests (as Miles and Virginia Cavendish respectively) while trying to investigate the events that are about to unfold. For as soon as all the guests are present the house becomes cut off from 1980. It is now in its own pocket of time - to all appearances it really is the 1930s. Even George McDee, who died all those years ago seems to be alive and well and wandering about the house in between working on his pet project in his laboratory.

However, the same cannot be said for everyone else as one by one the guests start dying, murdered my one means or another. To cap it all, each and every corpse disappears shortly after it has been discovered. It would seem that Time itself is the murderer but to what purpose? And why did George McDee die in a fire all those years ago? Even Sapphire turns against Steel - are they immune from whatever force has brought them to this strange place?
