PICTURE/SOUND QUALITY

The picture quality is excellent, the sound quality is excellent. It has been said that there is a lip sync issue in one episode but I couldn't find any problems on the DVD I have. If there is an issue it doesn't stand out. Although this story was completed for DVD before the VidFIRE process was available, the quality of the print is still excellent - its like watching a brand new recording. In fact, one of the extras on the DVD compares the original 1992 video print and the print used for the DVD. The difference is amazing. Overall, I would rate the picture and sound quality of the DVD at 95%.

INTRODUCTION TO THE STORY

Early in the 26th century an expedition comprising a group of archaeologists and logicians are trying to gain access to the city of Telos wherein lie the Tombs of the Cybermen. Their first attempt has already failed - a man lies dead, electrocuted by the doors which seem to offer sole access to the city. Another expedition arrives, comprising a motley bunch of travellers - the Doctor and his two companions. It is the Doctor who finds a way to enter the city, his own curiosity piqued by the mention of the Cybermen.

Once inside, the expeditions split up into different teams, one staying in the main room, the other two investigating the chambers that lie beyond two doors. It is not long before another man dies, this time apparently killed by a Cyberman. Are they truly locked away in their tombs? The answer to this and other questions lies inside the Tombs themselves. Back in the control room, Kleig, one of the logicians, strives to open the hatch that will lead down to the lower levels of the city and the Tombs of the Cybermen. The Doctor suspects that there are those among the expedition members who want more than to just increase their understanding of the Cybermen. They want the power of the Cybermen to further their own ends. And what of the Cybermen themselves? Could the Cybermen have anticipated such desires and are now simply waiting for the right time to restart their conquest of the galaxy?
